The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday handed a defeat to Republicans seeking to throw out up to 2.5 million mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania as they try to undo President Donald Trump’s election loss, with the justices refusing to block the state from formalizing President-elect Joe Biden’s victory there.
The Supreme Court rejected this 9-0. Not a single justice went on record to hear this case. Alito appears to have referred the case to the USSC then vote against hearing it. He was sending a message here that he didn’t act alone, all nine of them passed on hearing it.
Conservatives moved the goalposts once more and said it’s to make way for the Texas case. Well, no, it doesn’t work like that at all. This Pennsylvania case was garbage yet it’s a far better case to hear than the Texas case. Texas is literally trying to use the USSC to dictate how other states run their elections for President.
It has no merit at all and to act like it does opens the floodgates for states to sue other states because they don’t like how they conduct elections. Oregon can sue Alabama and claim Alabama must enact early voting. Hell, it allows Alabama to sue Colorado and demand Colorado stop early voting. Hearing the case would cause chaos and run foul of our entire legal system. It’s going nowhere.
