District 28

Jan Schmidt is running to be State Rep for Nashua Ward 1 / District 28. Schmidt is the incumbent, having served three terms in this position. As a Rep in the NH House of Representatives, Schmidt was a member of: The Labor, Industrial, and Rehabilitative Services Committee, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Advanced Manufacturing Education, the Democratic Economic & Business Caucus, the Environmental Caucus, and the Women’s Caucus. Now, she’s ready to serve again as your representative for District 28. Jan was kind enough to sit down to answer more than 5 of our 5 questions.

What cause are you most passionate about?

One cause that encompasses all causes, the cause of Justice. Economic, Racial, Political, Environmental, Criminal Justice. All of these matter.

What is one message you would like to give to your district?

I’m here, and I listen.

What was your favorite toy as a kid?

Whoa, that was realllly a long time ago.

Where were you 3 hours ago and what were you doing?

I was creating a post about a candidate for County Sherriff, sitting at my computer with my parrot tapping on the desk.

What advice would you give someone who is assuming an elected position for the first time?

Ask questions, always ask a lot of questions.

Why did you decide to run for office?

I watched bills being discussed that would take away personal freedoms and when I tried to discuss them with my Representatives I was ignored. That made me determined to replace them.

What experience has made you most prepared for public office?

Volunteering as a young student in the school library I learned that no question ever needs to go unanswered.

Why are you most qualified for the position?

I show up, I listen, I care, and I remember that I am there because of you.

Have you ever solved a Rubick’s Cube?

Yes, but I cheated.
