Issue of Kamala Harris’ Eligibility To serve as President
There has been news spreading around social media that claims the Democratic candidate for Vice President Kamala Harris is not eligible to serve as a President. These claims are made on the basis that Harris is an ‘anchor baby’ her mother was an Indian immigrant and her father was Jamaican.

The news started to spread a couple of months before Biden announced Harris to be his running mate. “She is an anchor baby, the mother from Indian and father from Jamaica, and neither of them were American citizens at the time of birth,” a post on social media said.

However, these claims are baseless and have no truth in them. Law experts have given their explanation for it and believe that this is all nothing else than ‘racial nonsense’. According to law, a person should be at least 35 years of age, should be a resident of the US for at least 14 years, and should be a natural-born US citizen. According to experts, it doesn’t matter from where Harris’ parents were from, she was born in California, Oakland which makes her ‘a natural-born US citizen’.

Additionally, Section 2 of the 14th amendment also supports her American citizenship as it states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of United States.”

Contrary to the claims that were spread on social media and Trump, Harris is perfectly eligible to run for Vice President and even serve as President. It seems that these claims were nothing other than just propaganda that was spread to defame Harris who has provided Biden with a breakthrough by attracting a large number of Asian-American and Black-American voters.
