We first became aware of Anna Madsen back in 2014. Anna is an singer/songwriter and artist from New Hampshire. Anyone who has heard or seen her art, they are met with expression of uncompromised passion. Since that time she has released a number of albums, toured England, released fantastic music videos, and stunned the art world with her photography. We had the chance to sit and chat with Anna Madsen for a few minutes(socially distanced). She is currently working on some new music and we are excited to hear it when done. We contacted Anna and asked her to do our famous five question interviews.
What is one message you would like to give to your fans?
Nothing happens overnight and about half of what I do never sees the light of day. For example, it takes me 6 months to write a good song and there’s hundreds of photographs I’ve taken that no one will ever see. Everything takes time and no one’s output is always 100% amazing. Where were you 3 hours ago and what were you doing? Scanning polaroids and drinking wine.
When did you first think of yourself as an artist?
Probably not until social media demanded I brand myself or present me with a bio to fill in. I just like to create, it keeps the chaos at bay and being idle has always depressed me. Writing songs / taking pictures is a healthy outlet for channeling negative energy and it’s a good way to escape into whatever story I’m telling / capturing.
What has been occupying your mind the most in the past week?
I worry about the future and how dire it seems for both the fine art photography community and for the music scene. But it is what it is, right? Where there is a will there is way – even if the glass ceiling seems impenetrable.
What music, band, song or album is your guilty pleasure?
Birds of Prey soundtrack.
How are you feeling right now?
I go back in forth between hopeless and optimistic about the future, but I think that is me and everyone else on this planet.
